Why can’t I enable Remote Control on the Kasa APP?
If your smart device is unable to be controlled remotely, or it shows “Local only” on the Kasa APP, it’s suggested to follow the below steps to troubleshoot.
Note:
The Remote Control function of the Kasa device is enabled automatically once the device is configured and linked to the TP-Link Cloud successfully, and on the Device Settings page of the Kasa device, the Remote Control option is not visible.
Step 1 Upgrade your Kasa device to the latest firmware
To upgrade firmware of Kasa smart devices, please refer to the FAQ.
Step 2 Turn on Remote Control
Go to the Device Settings page of your Kasa device refer to the below pictures. If you see a Remote Control switch on the Device Settings page, please turn it on for a check.
If it reports an error message when you fail to turn on Remote Control, please follow the prompts below to troubleshoot.
Error message: It’s bound to another account
It’s caused that the smart device has been bound to another Kasa account. Please check if you has registered the other account before.
If yes, please sign in with your previous Kasa account and delete the device from the list. After that, sign in your new account and reconfigure the smart device.
If you forget your previous account, please hard reset the device as per User Guide/Quick Installation Guide for a try. And then configure it again with your new account.
If the issue persists, please contact TP-Link support with the MAC address of the device on the Kasa app.
Error message: Cloud send cmd failed / Another cmd is running / other error messages
1. Please reset the Kasa device to factory default settings as per User Guide/Quick Installation Guide, then reconfigure it.
2. Turn off the firewall on the modem/router and then reboot it.
3. Change the DNS server of the modem/router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Step 3 Factory reset
1. Please reset the Kasa device to factory default settings as per User Guide/Quick Installation Guide, then reconfigure it.
2. If you’re still unable to control the device remotely but find a Remote Control switch on the Device Settings page, refer to Step 2 to troubleshoot.
It’s suggested to contact TP-Link Support if the above suggestion cannot solve your problem.
