How to manage your password on your Smart Door lock
With Tapo smart locks, you have the flexibility to set up multiple passwords for different people and various situations. You can also specify the access time for which these passwords are valid. This FAQ guide will walk you through the process of setting up a variety of passwords in your Tapo smart lock and how to apply them to different use cases.
Normal code
Normal code is the common code you use to unlock your door lock. You can set different code for your families and friends and can set access time for each code. The maximum number of Normal Code and One-time code is 200. You need to connect the door lock via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to generate One-time code.
The setup process is as follows:
1. Tap Door lock > PIN Code > Normal Code.
2. Set the code by yourself or generate a code randomly.
3. Set access time, the code will cannot be used except for the set time.
Remember that the code will not be displayed in the APP again for security reasons. Please keep it in a secure locations.
One-time code
If someone needs to enter your home and you're not available to open the door manually, there’s no need to share your normal code. You can provide them with a one-time-use password. Once used, the password will automatically become invalid
You can freely set the name of the One-time code and its validity period. The maximum number of Normal Code and One-time code is 200. You need to connect the door lock via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to generate One-time code.
The setup process is as follows:
1. Tap Door lock > PIN Code > One-Time Code.
2. Set the code by yourself or generate a code randomly.
3. Set access time, the code will expire except for the set time.
4. Name your One-time code. Then you can share to someone need this one-time code.
Remember that the code will not be displayed in the APP again for security reasons. Please keep it in a secure locations.
Emergency Code
An emergency code is used in case of emergencies or when other unlocking methods are unavailable. It can be generated remotely through the Tapo app. The generated emergency code can only be used once within the valid time. Tapo will let you know the valid time once the code is generated.
It can generate the password when you are unable to connect to the door lock via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is a random 8-digit code generated by the device's internal algorithm and cannot be customized.

1. Tap Door Lock > Device Settings > Emergency Code.
2. Tap Generate Emergency Code.
3. Copy or Share the code to someone needs it. The code will expire when it’s used to unlock the door. You can generate up to 16 codes every 4 hours.
