How to Connect a Tapo Smart Door Lock to Google Home
One of the many features offered by Tapo Smart Door Locks is their ability to integrate with voice control and automation via Google Home. This guide will help you successfully connect your Tapo smart door lock to your Google Home. Once connected, you can use simple voice commands to control your lock.
NOTE: Please ensure your Tapo app is up to date, as well as the firmware for your Tapo Smart Door Lock.
Linking the Tapo Service with Google Home
First, make sure your Tapo device is set up and online before connecting the Tapo smart door lock to Google Home. There are two options for connection:
Option 1:
- Open the Tapo app, tap Me > Third-Party Service > Google Assistant > Tapo Actions.
- Tap Link from Google Home app. The Google Home app will open automatically.
3. Google Home will begin the link procedure and open the Tapo app. Tap Agree & Link.
4. The link procedure is finished. The devices linked to your TP-Link ID will be populated in the Google Home app. Select your Tapo Smart Door Lock and assign it to a room.
5. Your lock is now connected. Toggle on Control via Google and set a security code for future use. This code is required to control your lock via voice commands.
Note: This code can only be reset and cannot be retrieved.

Option 2:
- Open the Google Home app, tap device menu and then tap the Add button.
- Tap Works with Google Home.
- Search for Tapo and then select it. This will automatically open the Tapo app and start the link procedure.
- The following steps are the same as Option 1.

You can lock/unlock your Tapo Smart Door Lock using simple voice commands via Google Home. For example: “Hey Google, unlock my Tapo Smart Door Lock”.
Note: Every time you change the name of the Tapo device, you will need to discover the device again to update its name in Google Home.
